The
old cellars are beautiful and we
wasted no time starting the tasting. We enjoyed the
Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva,
the Rosso di Toscana IGT Bellezza and the
Rosso di Toscana IGT Allenanza.
The last two wines are known as "Super Tuscans" because they do not follow
the rules of Chianti.

The
Super Tuscans don't have to follow the blend rules of the Chianti, they will
have Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blended with the Sangiovese, and can also
be aged in the French barriques, imparting more tannin and oak flavors. We
liked all of the wines, and the Chianti Classico Riserva can be found in the
US for about $18/bottle.
